IN LOVING MEMORY OF KKR THE SUNDANCE KID
Born: May 02, 1996

Died: December 24, 2005

Do you think the time is right?
May I say goodbye to pain filled days and endless nights?
I've lived my life and done my best, an example tried to be.
So can I take that step beyond and set my spirit free?
I didn't want to go at first, I fought with all my might.
But something seems to draw me now to a warm and living light.
I want to go, I really do; it's difficult to stay.
But I will try as best I can to live just one more day.
To give you time to care for me and share your love and fears.
I know you're sad and afraid, because I see it in your tears.
I'll not be far, I promise that, and hope you'll always know,
That my spirit will be close to you wherever you may go.
Thank you so for loving me. You know I love you too,
And that's why it's hard to say goodbye and end this life with you.
So hold me now just one more time and let me hear you say,
Because you care so much for me, you'll let me go today.

How do you describe a mere 'dog' whose life so enhanced, so enriched, and so CHANGED the lives of the unwitting mortals who were lucky enough to have 'owned' him? Pet? Companion? Guardian? Teacher? There are no words to describe all the things he was to us.  KKR The Sundance Kid, "Dance", was our first Rhodesian Ridgeback. He was carefully selected not only because he was a beautiful pup, but because of his lineage and the clean genetics and awesome temperaments they carried. His personality was unmatched, he was wise and kind, and goofy and intensely loyal. His puppies were the same - genetically clean, conformationally correct, and wonderful companions.  At the end of his life, we went on that long last walk together where, as obedient as ever, he lay down when I asked him to and we let him go with the dignity that he deserved.  His legacy lives on not only in his puppies blood but in the names the majority of KKR dogs carry - they are all "Dances"!!!

excerpt from "The Dance" - Garth Brooks
I'm glad I didn't know
The way it all would end, the way it all would go.
Our lives are better left to chance, I could have missed the pain
But I'd have had to miss the Dance.

I miss you Dance, every day.
